Currently Reading – On the Come Up by Angie Thomas
The award-winning author of The Hate U Give returns with a powerful story about hip hop, freedom of speech – and fighting for your dreams, even as the odds are stacked against you.
Bri wants to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. As the daughter of an underground hip hop legend who died right before he hit big, Bri’s got massive shoes to fill. But when her first song goes viral for all the wrong reasons, Bri finds herself at the centre of controversy and portrayed by the media as more menace than MC. And with an eviction notice staring her family down, Bri no longer just wants to make it – she has to. Even if it means becoming the very thing the public has made her out to be.

Reading Next – Sorry Not Sorry by Sophie Ranald
Charlotte has always been a good girl. But being good is getting boring…
She’s not just stuck in a rut – she’s buried in it up to her chin. The only company she has in bed is the back catalogue of Netflix and falling in love feels like the stuff of fairy tales. So when she stumbles across a popular podcast, ‘Sorry Not Sorry’, which challenges women to embrace their inner bad girl, she jumps at the chance to shake things up.
Old Charlotte would never ask for a stranger’s number, go on a blind date or buy lacy lingerie… But New Charlotte is waving goodbye to her comfort zone (with a side order of margaritas). And it turns out that good things happen to bad girls…

Angie Thomas will be at a local book fest in April, so I’m waiting to meet her and get a signed copy – it will be a long wait. Hope you’re enjoying it! https://teripolen.com/2019/02/13/www-wednesday-what-am-i-reading-amreading-22/
The book is good but harder going than the first as it contains a lot rap which I can’t say I’m that into.
I’m soooo jealous that you are reading On the Come Up! I’ve been looking forward to that for more than a year now. I’m hoping that my husband is getting that for me for Valentine’s Day this week! 😉 Hope you enjoy it! Here’s my WWW: https://greatmorrisonmigration.wordpress.com/2019/02/13/www-wednesdays-february-13-2019/
Fingers are crossed that your hubby gets it for you.
Your books are all calling to me. I need to read The Hate U Give before I tackle On the Come Up. I also need The Innocent Wife, a very tempting title.
Enjoy your books, and here’s MY WWW POST
The Hate you Give was an amazing book. Up to now On the Come Up is okay but it’s harder going.
I’m really excited for On The Come Up, what did you think?
I’m only 7 chapters in but it’s harder going than Angie’s first book but is still a good read. If you like rap music then you will love it.
Ooh, I like those books. You always have great choices.
Thank you.
Sorry Not Sorry looks amazing!! It has gone right onto my TBR list. Have a great week!
It was a lot of fun.
