1 March 2017 – Paula Fox, author of ‘One-Eyed Cat‘ was born in New York City, New York, USA on 22nd April 1923. She died aged 93 in Brooklyn, New York, USA at the Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.

6th March 1973 – Pearl S. Buck, author of ‘The Good Earth‘ was born in Hillsboro, West Virginia, USA on 26th June 1892. She died aged 80 in Danby, Vermont, USA.

6th March 1888 – Louisa May Alcott, author of ‘Little Women‘ was born in Germantown, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA on 29th November 1932. She died following a stroke aged 55 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

8th March 1925 – Thomas W. Lawson, author of ‘Friday, the Thirteenth‘ who was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts, on 26th February 1858. He died aged 67 in Boston Massachusetts, USA.

9th March 1994 – Charles Bukowski, author of ‘Ham on Rye‘ was born in Andernach, Germany on 16th August 1920. He died from Leukaemia, aged 73 in San Pedro, California, USA.

10th March 2017 – Robert James Waller, author of ‘The Bridges of Madison County’ (originally titled Love in Black and White) was born in Rockford, Iowa, USA on 1st August 1939. He died age 77 in Fredericksburg, Texas, USA.

11th March 1970 – Erle Stanley Gardner, author of ‘The Case of the Velvet Claws: Perry Mason Mystery‘ was born in Malden, Massachusetts, USA on 17th July 1889. He died aged 80 in Temecula, California, USA.

12th March 2015 – Sir Terry Pratchett, author of ‘Colour of Magic‘ was born in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, UK on 28th April 1948. He died aged 66 in Broad Chalke, Wiltshire, UK.

12th March 1945 – Anne Franks, author of ‘The Diary of a Young Girl‘ was born in Frankfurt, Germany on 12th June 1929. She died aged 15 in Lower Saxony, Germany. Most possible cause is Typhus. *exact date is disputed*

12th March 2001 – Robert Ludlum, author of ‘The Bourne Identity‘ was born in New York City, New York, USA on 25th May 1927. He died aged 73 whilst recovering from severe burns in Naples, Florida, USA.

14th March 2018 – Stephen Hawking, author of ‘A Brief History of Time‘ who was born in Oxford, UK on 8th January 1942. He died aged 76 at his home in Cambridge, UK.

19th March 1950 – Edgar Rice Burroughs, author of ‘Tarzan‘ was born in Chicago, Illinois, USA on 1st September 1875. He died from a heart attack aged 74 in Encino, Los Angeles, California, USA.

27th March 1982 – Harriet Adams, author of ‘The Secret Agent on Flight 101‘ (Under her pseudonym Franklin W. Dixon), was born in Newark, New Jersey, USA on 11th December 1892. She died aged 89 in Tewksbury Township, New Jersey, USA.

28th March 1941 – Virginia Woolf (nee Adeline Virginia Stephen), author of ‘Mrs Dalloway‘ was born in Kensington, London, UK on 25th January 1882. She died aged 59 in the River Ouse, Sussex, UK. Virginia committed suicide by drowning herself after falling into a deep depression. Her cremated remains were buried beneath an elm tree in the garden of Monk’s House, where she lived with her husband.

30th March 1912 – Karl May, author of ‘Winnetou: The Apache Knight‘ was born in Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Germany on 25th February 1842. He died aged 70 in Radebeul, Germany. His death certificate states from Cardiac Arrest, Acute Bronchitis and Asthma.

31st March 1855 – Charlotte Brontë, author of ‘The Professor‘ was born in Thornton, West Yorkshire, UK on 21st April 1816. She died aged 38 in Haworth, West Riding of Yorkshire, UK.
