Let’s sit down on the bench next to Mayra and ask a few questions about her blog: Stream of May
StreamofMay previously known as MayraLaMode was created in September 2014. My blog covers fashion, beauty, lifestyle as well as brand collaborations and local fashion events. I focus my style mainly in the unisex and alternative genre, but I am open to wearing anything! The more daring the better! I write in hopes to spread love, light and self-expression.
I have been blogging for almost 2 years! My blog is still a baby.
Well, I’ve always wanted to share with others my Fashion knowledge and ideas, but I never really knew how. I’m a very introvert person, so I felt writing was a great way to communicate with millions of people without actually having to deal with awkward moments!
I chose Fashion because I have always been very passionate about anything that has to do with the art of the fashion industry, from photography to modelling. I love finding people around the world that share my ideas.
Yes, this is my first and only blog, I don’t plan on making a new one since this alone is very hard to maintain. However, I am working on making a website for all my photography, but that’s a separate project.
Per week I try to spend at least one or two whole days dedicated to everything relating to my blog from posts to social media engagement. Sometimes I can go up to a month without updating, but that’s because school gets super difficult specially now that I am about to graduate.
I love being able to imagine a photo shoot or an outfit and being able to bring it to life. I use my blog as an emotional/ artistic outlet. I can get as intimate and as weird as I like because I know its my little space in the web.
I love how I have supportive readers who enjoy my honesty and “rawness” and that motivates me to keep being me.
The most frustrating thing is not being able to to bring to life an idea due to time, or money. It’s so frustrating because even once I have the time or funds I feel it will be already to late since fashion is constantly changing.
Yes! Of course! Honestly, I find smaller bloggers or smaller blogging communities help each other more than larger blogger communities.
I try not to share it with friends a lot because I feel its like bribing. I sort of wait for people to ask or bring it up. I am very shy sometimes when friends look at my blog in front of me or call me by my website’s name.
Yes, I remember it perfectly! I was talking about me watching re-runs from ANTM and how I always gravitate towards the awkward shy girl in every season.
I wish that someone told me that no matter how tough it got to always keep up with it and make it a priority specially if you’re planning to use it as a foundation for your career.
A big thing I recommend is to do it for you. I actually wrote in one of my posts (Get Lost) on how I got caught up with all the free stuff and opportunities that I started to become someone else and my blog basically became an advertising site rather than a relatable site.
Don’t lose yourself for the views and sponsorship keep true to who you are.
I’m trying to make my blog more of a lifestyle type of blog rather than full fashion. I added a “Diary” section were I share with my readers life experiences I been through to show them they are not alone in whatever rough path they are currently going through. I want to show them that everything in life is an experience we all grow from.
