Synopsis

Monsters + (secretly highly dangerous) doughnuts = all the ingredients for an explosively funny read!

Tenth-generation monster-hunter Grace has a unique way of bumping off monsters. She and her sister run a bakery, Cake Hunters, where they make fabulous creations full of a special exploding baking powder that will get rid of any troublesome monster!

And now Grace has a new and unlikely partner in crime – 360-year-old cyclops Mr Harris. They have a new and perilous mission from the Secret Service – to rid the city of a pesky Bottom-Biter who is causing havoc. If only Mr Harris would stop just eating the monsters and honing his advanced patisserie skills in Grace’s bakery, what a team they’ll make!

Review by Stacey

Cyclops on a Mission is the second book in the Monster Doughnuts series by author Gianna Pollero. The first book titled Monster Doughnuts I reviewed last week and found it unique, entertaining, and laugh-out-loud.

The second book begins a couple of weeks after the first ended and the monster that Grace our monster hunter was tracking, Mr Harris the Cyclops, is now working for the Secret Service with the help of Grace, her family, and their bakery.

Mr Harris has been given two tasks, firstly to locate and stop a monster that has been going around London biting the bums of the humans and giving them a sore, itchy rash. The second is to locate a missing celebrity – Though he is less keen to solve this one.

The book is as amusing as the first. Slaying monster via bakery goods is a fabulous idea and one that children will love. The book is pure joy from beginning to end, and there is even a snippet of book three at the back too.

They will love all the different and weird monsters in this book, including those that trip you up, tangle your hair, cause dust, etc, as well as having a monster capturing (well as long as he doesn’t eat them first) other monsters.

From the writing that just flows to the impressive plot, and the humorous illustrations, this is a book that will bring joy and laughter to the reader and will leave them with the biggest grin on their faces.
