On the 28th January 2015 at United Biscuits (UK) Company, which is located in West Berkshire, a new world record was set. The company which is renown for making biscuits (or is it a cake??) McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes and the popular and tasty chocolate Penguin biscuits gathered their employees and set out attempting to topple some books.

One-hundred-and-fifty of the biscuit company’s employees, working in partnership with Guinness World Records (GWR), through its new Employee Engagement solution project, decided to try for a new ‘World Record’.

The plan seemed straightforward. It was to knock down – in domino style – thousands of books to get the record for ‘Most books toppled, in domino fashion’.

The company gathered up 5,318 books but they weren’t any random books, oh no! All the books were the 2015 edition of the Guinness World Records, the first time the books had ever been used for a World Record, now that is surprising.

The team lined up the books so that they spelt out ‘UBelieve’ out across the floor, then the toppling began.

The anxious staff all looked on as the books began to knock into one another, but would they make it the whole way round? Oh course they would 🙂 It took a total of 2 minutes 27 seconds from beginning to end to topple them all, but they had completed what they set out to do, become world record breakers.

**Updated Fact – on 14th October 2015 this record was broken by Sinners Domino Entertainment company based in Germany. The toppling occurred during the Frankfurt Book Fair in Frankfurt, Germany, where the company toppled an amazing 10,200 books – This time it was 2016 edition of the Guinness World Records that was used. As of June 2021 their record still stands.
