Synopsis

The Inheritance Games ended with a bombshell, and now heiress Avery Grambs has to pick up the pieces and find the man who might hold the answers to all of her questions – including why Tobias Hawthorne left his entire fortune to Avery, a virtual stranger, rather than to his own daughters or grandsons.

As the mystery grows and the plot thickens, Grayson and Jameson, the enigmatic and magnetic Hawthorne grandsons, continue to pull Avery in different directions. And there are threats lurking around every corner, as adversaries emerge who will stop at nothing to see Avery out of the picture – by any means necessary.

Review by Stacey

The Hawthorne Legacy begins immediately where the first book in the series, The Inheritance Games ended.

If you are not familiar with the plot, The Inheritance Games features teenager Avery Gramps who was living with her older sister after the death of her mother. She was invited to the will reading of billionaire Tobias Hawthorne, whom she didn’t know, and in front of his whole family was left his entire estate, including houses, holiday homes, jets, money, charities, etc. The one condition of the will was that she had to spend a year living at the Hawthorne estate.

Unsure as to why she has been left everything she and the Hawthorne grandsons, Nash, Grayson, Jameson, and Xander set out to discover the reason and follow a whole host of clues.

In book two The Hawthorne Legacy, Avery is set on proving that something she uncovers in book one is in fact true but the more she and the boys dig, the more they discover that some things shouldn’t be unearthed. Plus, just like in the first book Avery has people wanting her dead and now has bodyguards with her wherever she goes.

This YA mystery is exceptionally entertaining and contains intriguing, charming, and amusing characters. We get to see more of the grandsons than we did in the first book and more of Max, Avery’s best friend too, who is still unable to swear and uses a whole host of words when she needs to.

The plot is enjoyable, fast-paced, and kept me entertained from beginning to end. It is filled to the brim with red herrings, twists, turns, secrets, and cryptic clues though what else would you expect from a book that is all about working out puzzles. I now can’t wait for book three to arrive next year.
