George ‘Genghis’ McCann has stolen – and lost – a priceless masterpiece. Snooker champion Oscar ‘The Showman’ Bowman is charged with betting fraud.

With a second baby on the way, and promises of great rewards if he wins Bowman’s case and recovers the painting, defence lawyer Robbie Munro has never been so tempted to fix the odds in his favour.

Review new 2021

Lawyer Robbie Munro has taken on two very different cases. The first being the murder of his ex-client George ‘Genghis’ McCann who had all the charges dropped against him for robbery and then within days of his release ended up being stabbed to death. George’s girlfriend Shannon Todd has been charged with his murder and is awaiting trial, though she swears she is innocent.

Robbie’s second client is snooker ace, Oscar ‘The Showman’ Bowman, who has been charged with betting fraud. He has already fired four lawyers and the trial is only a week away. If Robbie can get him off the charge a large sum of money will be heading his way, which will come in very handy for him.

As well as his clients Robbie’s wife is heavily pregnant, his dad is grumpy and his brother has everything pinned on Robbie winning the Bowman case so that a few strings can be pulled for his footballer girlfriend.

I love a good legal novel and this one not only featured two cases it also features one of the funniest lawyers I have come across (in the fictional world). Robbie is such an amazing character. His whole demeanour and his dry sense of humour made this book worth reading. There were even times I laughed out loud, not something I find myself doing often with this genre.

From beginning to end Fixed Odds grabbed me and I didn’t want to put the book down. Not only did Robbie make this book interesting but his clients too. Shannon was someone who swore too much, drank too much and didn’t have anything going for her in her life. She was often in trouble with the police, but there was something likeable about her. Whereas Oscar was the complete opposite. High profiled, earned millions from his snooker career, had money to burn and was a right royal pain in the ar*e. He was the books Mr. Nasty.

This is the first book I have read by author William McIntyre but it won’t be my last as I just adored everything about Fixed Odds.
