The British Library in Central London is the largest national library in the world (by number of items catalogued), with roughly one-hundred-and-seventy-million items inside. Around fourteen-million of these are books.
Each year, the library buys or obtains an extra three million items.
To house all of these new items, the library needs an extra six miles of shelving space per year.
Wow, that’s a lot of shelving!
