Synopsis

A heart-warming tribute to community, nature and intergenerational friendship.

When a little girl moves into her new home, the first thing she notices is the magnificent tree next door.

Helping her neighbour tend to her garden through the seasons, the girl learns what an important place both the tree and her neighbour hold in the hearts of their community.

Review by Stacey

The Tree Next Door is a hardcovered children’s storybook about an old lady who has a wonderful tree in her garden and a little girl who loves the tree (and garden) so much she wants to help look after it.

The book is beautifully illustrated with calm, inviting drawings that show not only the tree in all its glory but throughout the different seasons too.

Whilst I think the plot is a real delight in fictional terms. In reality, I would hate for my garden to be overlooked by so many apartments and houses and for a child to perch herself on the joining wall watching me every time I went into it. I much prefer my private space to be just that, private.

I do love that the people in the surrounding homes came together to brighten up the tree during winter and how everyone got on so well.

Overall, a wonderful bedtime story that shows the power of friendship and kindness.

Charlie Moyler is an Art Director from south east London and has been designing children’s books for over a decade. As the child of two artists, she spent a lot of time creating things when she was younger – and even dabbled in selling her own drawings at her parents’ exhibitions. Thankfully she has found her way into a job that surrounds her with talented artists every day and she has little desire to compete with them now. THE TREE NEXT DOOR is Charlie’s debut authored picture book.
